STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — May is one of the best months of the year to shop, and each Memorial Day retailers offer big markdowns — but you’ve got to know what to buy and what to resist in order to get the best deal.
For Memorial day 2019, large appliances top the list when it comes to smart shopping, according to BlackFriday.com.
Retailers including Sears, Home Depot and Lowe’s reliably throw Memorial Day sales every year. In addition to huge price drops, many offer special offers, too, like free delivery and even free installation.
Some retailers offer increased discounts if you buy sets and suites, or spend more than a certain amount, so if you’re thinking of remodeling a kitchen, Memorial Day weekend is the time to shop.
Small appliances, too, are a smart choice this weekend, experts say.
Blenders, coffee makers, pressure cookers, toasters and mixers are all marked down at major retailers this time of year.
Walmart is offering a Hamilton Beach Wave Action Blender for just $15 through Tuesday.
Also, Amazon.com is holding a Warehouse Sale, offering 50 percent off a selection of small appliances, including the Magic Bullet Small Blender and the Instant Pot Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Steamer, Sauté, Yogurt Maker and Warmer.
Also on sale at 50 percent off at Amazon.com is the Zulay High Powered Milk Frother Handheld Foam Maker for Lattes, for $12.73.
Memorial Day weekend is a choice weekend for mattress-buying, BlackFriday.com says. Retailers just love three-day weekends for offering discounts, like free pillows and king-for-a-queen sales.
Look for bargains at traditional mattress retailers, such as Mattress Firm, and online mattress retailers, such as Overstock and Casper.
And, Sleepnumber.com is offering $1,000 off its new 360 SleepNumber Special Edition Smart Bed.
Accent pieces, linens and outdoor decor can be found with big markdowns this weekend.
Also, PotteryBarn.com, is offering Memorial Day bonus offers of 50 percent off outdoor furnishings and indoor decor. Offers of 30 percent off rugs and towels are also available through Monday.
Pier 1 is offering an additional 25 percent off sale merchandise this weekend. You’ll find markdowns in lighting, candles and seasonal gifts. Also, dining and entertainment items and bed and bath linens are included in the sale.
This weekend is a great time to stock up on not-quite-summer clothing, (think light sweaters, khakis) since retailers are focused on their summer stock right now and want to make room.
The Gap is offering an additional 50 percent off online orders, and has marked down everything from men’s T-shirts to T-shirt dresses.
And Land’s End is offering 40 percent off full-priced items, while J.Crew offers the same on several some spring items.
