GORE – Anyone looking for rest and relaxation can stay at The Nest, a vacation rental home with a view of Lake Tenkiller.

Owned by Cherokee Nation citizen Kurt Henry and his wife, Robin, The Nest is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom, fully renovated 1960s lake cabin located near Fin & Feather Resort in the Paradise Hill community. It was purchased in 2018 by Henry and renovated for visitors to enjoy.

At 1,856 square feet, the house sleeps up to six people and includes a sunroom, outdoor deck, dining area and living room.

The house was named The Nest because the sounds of birds can always be heard outside and branches from the trees in the yard hug the outside walls of the home, which can be seen from the eastern windows.

“You always hear birds. It felt like you’re up in the trees because of the way the branches come out and you’re looking like you’re up in a tree. There were just always birds around so I just thought of The Nest. And my name is Robin,” Robin said.

The house’s amenities include internet, air conditioning, a hot tub, TV, fireplace and washer and dryer.

The kitchen comes with several appliances such as refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and blender, as well as dishes and utensils.

The outdoor deck has a four-seat hot tub, grill and table and chairs. On the northeast corner of the back lawn is a fire pit with seating.

“It’s always got a beautiful view of the lake. In the winter time you have an even better view because some of the trees die down and you can see even more of the shoreline. It’s a great spot for the Fourth of July because its right across from where they do the big fire works display,” she said.

Renters include those looking for a home away from home to celebrate weddings, anniversaries, girls’ trips, graduations and other reasons.

Kurt said making the place enjoyable for others is “our world.” He helps maintain the place while his wife adds the creativity and design.

Renters can also enjoy a short walk to Soda Steve’s restaurant, and the nearest boat dock at Strayhorn Landing is a quarter of a mile away. The Nest also includes kayaks and bicycles to use.

The average cost is $250 per night plus taxes and cleaning fees. Renters can book a stay using listing #1308381 at www.vrbo.com. It’s located at Strayhorn Drive in Gore.
