In the early 1990s, conservative Ireland was scandalised when The Lovers’ Guide, a video produced by the sexologist Dr Andrew Stanway, became a bestseller. Stanway even appeared on The Late Late Show to defend his work — it’s a classic airing that’s worth googling.
By the early 2000s, Stanway had turned his attentions from bodies to bricks and mortar. He started to build and renovate houses, one of which was a former grain store on an island off Baltimore, Co Cork.
